What you can build with senior AWS engineers

Senior AWS engineers own real production systems, not just tickets. Common examples:

  • Cloud infrastructure and networking with VPCs, EC2, and load balancers
  • Serverless applications with Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB
  • CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Data storage and processing pipelines with S3, RDS, and Redshift
  • Monitoring, alerting, and cost optimization across multiple accounts

Role and skills

AWS developer responsibilities and core skills

Typical responsibilities

  • Design and provision cloud infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for reliable, repeatable deployments
  • Monitor system health, cost, and security posture across environments
  • Architect for scalability, high availability, and disaster recovery
  • Manage IAM policies and enforce security best practices
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on deployment strategy and architecture

Core skills we vet for

  • Core AWS services: EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, and IAM
  • Infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Containers and orchestration with Docker and ECS or EKS
  • CI/CD tooling: CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
  • Monitoring and observability with CloudWatch and related tools
  • Security fundamentals: IAM policy design, encryption, and network security

Hiring guide

Everything you need to know before hiring a AWS engineer

Select a question on the left to read the answer.

When AWS is the right cloud for your stack (and when it isn't)

AWS is the largest and most mature public cloud platform, with the broadest service catalog and the deepest hiring pool of engineers who already know it. For most companies without a strong existing reason to choose otherwise, that combination of maturity and available talent makes AWS the default starting point for cloud infrastructure.

AWS is a strong choice when:

  • You need a broad range of managed services, compute, storage, databases, messaging, machine learning, under one platform
  • You want the largest available pool of engineers with hands-on production experience on the platform
  • Your workloads are variable and benefit from services that scale automatically, like Lambda or managed container platforms
  • You need mature compliance and security tooling for regulated industries

Where another cloud, or a different approach, may fit better:

  • Your organization is already deeply invested in Microsoft tooling, in which case Azure's integration with Active Directory and existing Microsoft licensing can reduce friction
  • Your workloads are heavily tied to Google's data and machine learning tooling, where Google Cloud has an edge
  • You are extremely cost-sensitive at small scale and a simpler platform-as-a-service option would mean less operational overhead

In practice, the choice of cloud provider matters less over time than the quality of the engineering built on top of it. A well-architected AWS environment, with infrastructure as code, sensible cost controls, and solid security practices, will outperform a poorly run deployment on any provider. When you hire, the goal is an engineer who has operated AWS at production scale and can make sound tradeoffs between managed services and control, not just someone who has clicked through the console.

Where we help

Use cases & AWS expertise

This is where our AWS engineers make the biggest impact, from first commit to production scale.

Cloud migrations

Move workloads from on-premises infrastructure or another cloud to AWS, with a plan that minimizes downtime and rework.

Serverless applications

Build event-driven systems on Lambda and API Gateway that scale automatically and reduce operational overhead for spiky workloads.

Scalable web and mobile backends

Design infrastructure that handles growth without manual intervention, from auto-scaling groups to managed databases.

Data platforms

Build data pipelines and warehouses using S3, Redshift, and Glue that feed analytics and reporting reliably.

DevOps and CI/CD modernization

Replace manual deployment processes with automated pipelines that ship code safely and frequently.

Cost optimization and governance

Right-size infrastructure, set up multi-account structures, and put guardrails in place so cloud spend stays predictable as you grow.

AI-FLUENT BY DEFAULT

Every AWS engineer we place uses AI tools daily.

Not as a novelty. Our engineers use the tools your team already relies on to write faster, catch issues earlier, and ship with fewer review cycles.
