What you can build with senior React engineers

Senior React engineers own real production systems, not just tickets. Common examples:

  • Web applications and dashboards with React and Next.js
  • Reusable component libraries and design systems shared across teams
  • Server-rendered and statically generated marketing and product pages
  • State management layers with Redux, Zustand, or React Query
  • Cross-platform mobile apps with React Native sharing logic with the web app

Role and skills

React developer responsibilities and core skills

Typical responsibilities

  • Build and maintain production UI components and page flows
  • Manage application state and data fetching against REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Write tested, accessible, and performant front-end code
  • Review pull requests and maintain a shared component library
  • Own page performance, Core Web Vitals, and rendering strategy
  • Collaborate with design, product, and back-end teams in your workflow

Core skills we vet for

  • React fundamentals: hooks, context, and component composition
  • Next.js or another React framework in production
  • TypeScript for typed components, props, and hooks
  • State management with Redux, Zustand, or React Query
  • Testing with Jest, React Testing Library, or Playwright
  • CSS architecture: Tailwind CSS, CSS Modules, or styled-components

Hiring guide

Everything you need to know before hiring a React engineer

Select a question on the left to read the answer.

When React is the right choice

React is the default choice for most teams building a web application with any real interactivity, and for good reason: its component model, huge ecosystem, and hiring pool make it a safe bet for products expected to grow over years, not months.

It's a particularly strong fit when:

  • The product has meaningful client-side interactivity: forms, dashboards, real-time updates, or complex user flows
  • The team wants a large, well-documented ecosystem of libraries for routing, state, forms, and testing
  • Design consistency matters across many screens, which a component-based architecture and a shared design system support well
  • There's a plan to also ship a mobile app, since React Native lets teams share logic and sometimes UI code with React Native engineers

React is less necessary for content-heavy sites with minimal interactivity, where a simpler static site generator or even plain HTML and CSS can ship faster and be cheaper to maintain. It can also be overkill for a very small internal tool with a short lifespan.

For most product companies, though, the question isn't really "React or not," it's which meta-framework and architecture around React fits the product: a fully client-rendered SPA, a Next.js app with server rendering, or a statically generated site for content that changes rarely. A senior React engineer should be able to make that call rather than defaulting to whatever they used last.

Powering the UI

Where we help

Use cases & React expertise

This is where our React engineers make the biggest impact, from first commit to production scale.

Customer-facing web apps and dashboards

A senior React engineer owns the component architecture and state management behind product surfaces your customers use daily, keeping the UI fast and consistent as new features ship.

Design systems and component libraries

When multiple teams build UI against the same brand and interaction patterns, a React engineer builds and maintains the shared component library that keeps everyone consistent instead of reinventing buttons and forms.

Marketing sites with fast, SEO-friendly rendering

Next.js lets a React engineer combine static generation or server rendering with the same component model used in the product, so marketing pages load fast and rank well without a second tech stack.

Internal tools and admin panels

Operations, support, and sales teams often run on internal dashboards built in React, where a senior engineer can move fast on features without over-engineering for a small audience.

Migrating legacy front ends

Teams moving off jQuery, Angular.js, or an aging React version rely on a senior engineer who has done this before to plan the migration in stages without freezing feature work.

Cross-platform mobile apps with React Native

Product teams that want to reuse business logic and some UI code between web and mobile bring in React engineers who also work in React Native to keep both platforms moving together.

AI-FLUENT BY DEFAULT

Every React engineer we place uses AI tools daily.

Not as a novelty. Our engineers use the tools your team already relies on to write faster, catch issues earlier, and ship with fewer review cycles.

By the numbers

Why React talent is worth hiring well

React was used by 57 percent of JavaScript developers in JetBrains' 2023 Developer Ecosystem Survey (published February 2024), the clear favorite framework ahead of Vue (32 percent) and Next.js (27 percent), based on 26,348 respondents worldwide.

React remained one of the two most-used web technologies among professional developers in the 2025 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, alongside Node.js.

In the State of React 2024 survey, the large majority of respondents said they use React to build web apps, and roughly 35 percent (2,162 of 6,139) also use it to build mobile apps.
